Helena Fuchs Bio Picture

 My name is Helena Fuchs, I was born in Munich, Germany and moved to New York when I was 10. I moved to New York knowing very little English and a very different way of life which I had to adapt too. My dad is German and my mom is Dominican so now Im fluent in English, Spanish and German but am hoping to learn another language or 2. I visit Germany every summer to visit my dad since he lives there. Being there every summer gives me the opportunity to travel a lot and has made my love for traveling grow. Every year, we dedicate 2 or 3 weeks to travel to Italy, France, Greece, etc. I've visited many places in Europe so I'm very excited to learn about more cultures and places in this course. Soccer is the most popular sport in Germany so I grew up playing with my dad and once I got to middle school, I started playing for our school team and my love for soccer grew even more but unfortunately during my sophomore year, I tore my ACL so now I can't play the sport I love anymore. We currently live in Southampton, NY which is on Long Island. My town has many nice beaches and the ability to see both the sunrise and sunset which are so beautiful so that is one of my favorite things to do, I usually go see the sunset every night.

What is on your mind after learning about Gothic Cathedrals?

 After seeing and learning more about Gothic Cathedrals, I am in awe of these beautiful structures. In summer of 2018, I took a trip to Paris with my family and got to see Notre Dam in person before it unfortunately caught fire a year later.  The cathedral was so beautiful and had so many aspects that makes it so special. Tips for Performance Art Piece

 For my Performance Art piece, Im going to make a video that represents my very interesting background and challenges that are faced with being multiethnic. . I was born in Munich, Germany, I have German and Dominican parents. I want to somehow incorporate my background into this video showing my transition from living in Germany, to moving to the US and having to adjust to a whole new lifestyle and learn a new language. I want my project to show the transition of myself from then to now. To do this, I want to find pictures of myself that show my childhood compared to who I am now and videos that can help others understand more.
